hi ive never had charley horses in my life ever up until 2 months ago and monday june 24 2008 so monday night i had about 1 in my right leg and then 3 in my left do u know what it could be??
thanks
This is actually quite common when you are pregnant. I get them a lot. I had them during my last pregnancy too. However, I've never had that at any other point in my life. That is the worst way to be woken up out of a dead sleep. They hurt!!!!!

its just something that can happen when your pregnant, i dont know why but leg cramps are very common, more so in late pregnancy but they can start at any time. i havent got a charley horse while pregnant but i have gotten them before and they hurt soooo bad. your supposed to straighten your leg but i found for me that if i bend it and lay on top of it for a few minutes before straightening it that it makes it go away quicker. i think eating extra potassium is supposed to help so try eating more bananas and see if it stops you from getting them as much.
I keep getting them in the middle of the night as well~ They hurt soooo bad! I never used to get them either....but it just must be a build up of lactic acid. I have been trying to eat at least 1 banana a day! Who knows if it is helping? Hang in there!

I had one and only one while pregnant. I know you will think I am crazy, because I thought my mom was crazy when she told me this. Sleep with a bar of soap in the bed with you. I had one very painful one and was awake for about an hour that night. My mom told me to try it the next day. I figured it couldn't hurt anything. I never had another one. Coincidence, maybe, but worth a try!
I've had them off & on during my life, so I know how much they hurt! I've only had one so far being pg - and that was during bd'ing I was in so much pain and then I just started laughing, because we were dealing with the growing belly and then the charley horse and it really killed "the mood" - but it was funny.
Anyway, I think part of the reason I haven't gotten them much being pg is because I learned some great pre-natal yoga stretches. One you sit on the floor and flex your feet toward the sky, then roll your ankles (it feels good). The other thing I'm doing different: before, I used to stretch my legs in the middle of the night with pointed toes, now when I stretch in bed, I always make sure I am stretching with my heel first (toes up, not pointed). Good luck!
I have had a few in my lifetime and now that im in my 7th month, when i stretch my legs sometimes i can feel it about to come so i stop. It hasnt gotten me yet while im pregnant but it'll creep up on me and when it does i know it will hurt. I used to get them after a really busy and active day at night i try the straightening of the leg the bending but i find when i keep bending and shake it out it kinda helps.
I get them while I am in bed. I try to stand and put pressure on my leg as soon as I feel it coming on.
JustDance-I am going to try and strech my legs with my heel first..thanks for that tip!! I too point my toes and that is when it starts.
