if my hcg level doesn't go up does that mean miscarriage

if my hcg level doesn't double does that mean miscarriage. At 6 wks i tested hcg on tues. it was 20,241 and my progesterone was 25. On Thurs. i tested and my hcg was only 28,000 and progesterone dropped to 23.

I'm not sure how long it takes for hormone levels to rise but I wouldn't freak out over it...there was an increase so that has to be a good thing, would be my guess. If you're really concerned you should contact your doctor. How are you testing your levels and what is a normal level for your length of gestation?

Re: if my hcg level doesn't go up does that mean miscarriage

my doctor was away on vacation but I had blood work and asked for the results from the nurse. My levels did go up more but I read that if they don't double there could be a problem. I just wanted to know if anybody out there experienced anything similar and still had a healthy baby?

Re: if my hcg level doesn't go up does that mean miscarriage

If it is any reassurance - hcg levels are only meant to double every 2 days for approximately the first 4 weeks of gestation. After that it is natural that the levels start to slow. As long as the levels are still rising you should try not to be too worried. If the levels were falling that would be a different matter.
Good luck!
