Does more fluid make a difference

I read that the more fluid a baby has at time of ultrasound the better you can see. I heard that drinking water makes the fluid clear and when you eat your body produces more fluid. Is this true or have any of you heard this?

Re: Does more fluid make a difference

I think that drinking more fluid beforehand helps to keep the bladder full which can help push baby into a better position. As to fluid levels - I think that it is something you cannot influence much, unless you allow yourself to become very dehydrated.

Often, if baby is in an 'awkward' position they will tell the mummy to go walk around and drink a drink to try and encourage baby to move. Never actually happened to me as DD is usually very co-operative, lol, but I have known lots of women who had to go do that.

Hope that helps a bit.

Re: Does more fluid make a difference

this is true. back when i had my big 20 wk ultrasound i had to drink 36 oz of water an hour before the ultrasound and couldnt pee til it was over. it was horrible!! it hurt soo bad to hold that much water for so long but the sonogram was really clear and we were able to see everything real good. i peed for a good minute straight afterward, i didnt think it was ever gonna stop comin out.

Re: Does more fluid make a difference

when I go to have my ultrasound it is the complete oppoisite of what everyone else has to do. When I went to find out the sex I had alot of water as was prepared for the uncomfortable full bladder that I was going to have. When I went back they told me to go to the bathroom and empty my bladder and they do that at everyone I have had. When I went to the specialist he did it too.
Ask your dr or the nurse the day before or at your next apt. to see what they recomment I know I wish I would of I was in the waiting room with my eyes floating and wiggling in my seat I had to go so bad.

Re: Does more fluid make a difference

I am with Tami...when I had my last u/s they actually stopped in the middle and had me go to the bathroom because my bladder was so full that it was squishing things up so much that they were having a hard time seeing everything they wanted to see. Have to admit, it made me feel so much better too. They have never instructed me to drink anything before an u/s. Guess all doctors are different.

Re: Does more fluid make a difference

Rofl, actually, although I already posted about why drinking before a scan can be helpful I have never taken my own advice....
I am hopeless at having to wait to go for a wee so I always sneak through the side corridor to get to the sonograph room because that way there is a toilet en route and I can go there first without having to admit that I 'cheated'.
I would like to say though - all my pics have come out fine despite me cheating.
