Anyone considering Hypno Birthing Method?

I'm due October 13th and recently began attending a hypnobirthing class. Hypno Birthing-Mongan Method. Has anyone ever heard of this method? Anyone ever used this method in delivering their baby? What are your thoughts and experiences?

Re: Anyone considering Hypno Birthing Method?

I do not have experience with this, but I did have a real natural childbirth. I did not take any classes because we moved across the country when I was seven months along. I really want to take a hypnobirthing class, I am glad that you are. I just kinda winged it through and dealt with the pain and contractions as they came to me and I made it through. Best of luck to you and your wise decision!

Re: Anyone considering Hypno Birthing Method?

it's a method that teaches you how to truly relax through meditation. There are 3 muscles in the uterus each having a different function to bring the baby down through the birth canal. When you are afraid, fearful, stressed , not calm etc... the fight or flight response kicks in which in turn restricts blood supply to the uterus, tightens muscles and prevents the uterun muscles from functioning properly during labor, in turn causing a lot of pain and prolonged labor. The method is to completely relax your body and mind through the "surges" (contractions). With practice women are able to go in and out of the meditation during labor and have very comfortable births--peaceful and healthy for baby. It's truly a poweful thing--Mind over Matter. I'm sure it will be a lot of work to master but I'm very excited to learn how to do this. The mind is a powerful thing!

Re: Anyone considering Hypno Birthing Method?

Hello --

Yes - my husband and I just had our first class this weekend. I think it's great. My SIL did this for her 2nd child and spoke very highly of it. As she says, "What's bad about anything that can help a pregnant woman relax?"

Question for you -- what was your doctor's reaction?

Re: Anyone considering Hypno Birthing Method?

My doctor is very supportive. I actually received the referral for the class through my doctors office. I'm 34 weeks today and finished classes about 2 weeks ago. I've been practicing the breathing and meditation at least 5 nights per week. It puts me to sleep--not sure if that's how it's suppose to work but at the very least it relaxes me!
