Weight gain in the first trimester

Hi ladies,

I was just wondering what others have gained in the first 3 months of pregnancy? I weighed myself today, and was suprised to see that I've already gained 7 lbs (I'll be 12 weeks on Friday). I think with my ds I also gained 7 lbs in the first 12 weeks (but I thought it wasn't as much this time around), and I ended up gaining about 35lbs total (which is in the recommended 25-35 lbs for my starting weight), so still healthy. But the 7lbs is out of the recommended 2-5 lbs in the first trimester. So, I guess I'm just curious as to what others have put on?? Thanks!

Re: Weight gain in the first trimester

I've been wondering about this also, but for the opposite reason. I'm now nearly 15 weeks pregnant and when I went to the doctor yesterday I was surprised to see that I haven't gained any weight yet. My belly is getting really big, so I expected to see a couple of pounds at least. My doctor does not seem to be worried about this so I'm not either. I'm pretty sure every woman is different and as long as you are eating right and getting the nutrition you and the baby needs then it's ok. I don't think 7 lbs is too much in the 1st trimester, especially since that is along the same track as your last pregnancy. I'm sure your body is doing what it needs to, and so is mine

Re: Weight gain in the first trimester

I am 21 wks, and in my first trimester I lost about 10 lbs. I am overweight though and my dr said this was not unheard of. Then I started gaining a few lbs here and there. At my 20 week appointmentn I gained 10lbs, which put my gain up to 14 lbs. However, I have been sick, and I went back to the dr yesterday, and I lost another 6lbs, in a week! I was really shocked. My dr is not putting much stress on my weight gain or loss. All he is worried with is that I am taking my vitamins and eating somewhat healthy. And, my baby boy is measuring big. He is already 1lb at 21 weeks, so the dr knows that he is gettting nutrition.

Re: Weight gain in the first trimester

Yes, every woman is different. I'm 29 weeks and have put on 17 lbs. I also lost about 5 lbs at the beginning from nausea and didn't put on any weight till about 5 months. But now its caught up with me and I don't mind saying that it makes me feel like complete $%#@! I was hoping to keep weight gain in the 20-25 range but that's not going to happen.

Re: Weight gain in the first trimester

im 31 wks and at my appt last week i had gained 35 lbs already! i think in the first trimester i gained about 10 ibs maybe more i dont remember exactly. i just cant seem to quit gaining. now that i have gd and i have to limit my sugar and carb intake im hoping i wont gain too much more. i was eating A LOT of whatever i wanted but now im on a strict diabetic diet, no more cupcakes and mcdonalds i was underweight when i started so my recommended weight gain is between 28-40 pounds but im pretty sure im gonna go over that. i hope not by a lot though cuz i know the more i gain the harder it is going to be to lose. i was 110 when i got pregnant (im about 5'5-5'6) now im at 145. my goal is to get back to about 115-120 once the baby has been born.
