Sugar testing

Hey everyone i talked to a GD specialist this morning and she set me up with her at 2pm today. She told me that she would call in some testing supplies for me to pick up at a pharmacy and would coach me on how to use them and i guess put me on a diet. Anyone doing sugar testing that could give me some advice on what to expect. how many times a day will i be testing?

Re: Sugar testing

did you get your 3 hr results back already? that was fast it took them a week to get mine. thats really good they got you in so soon and now you can start doing everything you need to do to have a healthy baby. im supposed to check my sugar 4 times a day...when i first wake up and 2 hrs after every meal. its supposed to be between 60-90 when i wake up and under 120 2 hrs after i eat. my fasting number is always good..so far.. but i still have trouble with my after meal readings. i usually check it more then that though cuz im on insulin and if i start to not feel right i take it to make sure im not too high or dropping too low. hopefully you can just control it with the diet cuz its no fun taking shots everyday. my legs are full of holes and bruises i look like a druggie its really embarassing.

Re: Sugar testing

No i didnt get those results back yet but the doctor said that just in case i should start testing my sugar levels and start a diet right away just in case and im glad i didnt have to wait until i got the results back but as much as i want to have passed the three hour i think i failed so talking with the doctor and getting my supplies is good.

I was wondering what a person's levels should be and whats not good when testing. Im not a real good dieter every time i tried a diet i ended up cheating and giving up. My weight has been steady for the past few years until the pregnancy came up then i gained about 25 lbs. (didnt think that would happen)

Did your doctor ever tell you how long it takes for the gd to go away after the baby is born?

Re: Sugar testing

i just asked my dietician about that when i went and she said for most people it goes away instantly after the baby is born so im hoping that it works out that way cuz i want some pizza and some french fries and a cake. she said the people that are stuck with type 2 diabetes usually had it before they got pregnant and just didnt know it and i was tested when i had mono in december so i know i didnt have it before. i blame the weight gain on the gd at my appt on the 30th i had gained 36 pounds already but im hoping that now that im on this healthy diet i wont gain too much more. i was told i can gain into the 40s cuz i was underweight but thats gonna make it harder to lose later if i gain that much. has the dr talked to you at all about inducing? i havent been to the dr since i was started on insulin but i go on wednesday and he had said last time if i take insulin they will induce so im hoping they can give me a date. i want a day to start counting down too cuz i cant count to sept 22nd anymore if hes not gonna be in there that long.
