Difference between low birth weight and pre-mature babies.

Could some one correct me if im wrong i thought that low birth weight was a baby delivered at full term (37-40 weeks) with weight of about 4lbs or less.

And that pre-mature would be a child born at maybe weeks 29-32.

Could i be wrong.....my friend said that her mother had her little brother at 40 weeks and the doctors considered him premature. I have never heard of this.
This is my first child so i dont really know these things but i told her its a big difference between me and her mother because i am 20 and her mother was about 36 -40 yrs old when she had her little brother.

This made me frustrated because she thinks she knows everything about children and birth and only had about ummmm 0 children.

I believe low birth weight is the baby being born under 5 pounds and premature is the baby being born before 37 weeks.

My twins were born at 35 weeks and they are considered premature. However, they were both over 5 lbs.

I read on the internet today that you are at full term when you reach 37 weeks. So if a child is born before 37 weeks he/she is considered premature. And after 42 weeks its called post-term. Who wants to be pregnant for 42 weeks.

Just to let you know, most Dr.'s will not let you go too far beyond the due- I was going to be induced 1 day before 41 weeks, if I did not go into labor before. Luckily, I had my DS 7-5-08, only 3 days after my due date. It is not good for you or the baby to go too far beyond the due date these days.
