Re: how do i know if my waters have broken

My best friend's water broke when she first went into labor. She never had a contraction, they actually ended up having to give her Pictocin to get her to contract. I know she said she went to the bathroom but afterwards every so often she just kept felt like something was coming out, however she knew she was not peeing. It was VERY light. My water had to be broken in the hospital as it never happened on it's own, so I can't say from personal experience. However I'd think it if happened a few days ago that you'd notice a decrease in movement from the baby as if the fluid is low, it allows for less movement I believe. If you are too concerned, call your OB. They can do a test to see if you water has broken. Good luck, and try not to worry!

Re: how do i know if my waters have broken

I think you would have felt contractions by now. My first preg. my water just trickled out slowly down the side of my leg, while I was having mild contractions. It does not stop. My second, it never broke. So each time can be different. And once it does break, there is no protection from the pain, so the contractions should get stronger and hurt more.

Re: how do i know if my waters have broken

Well, one way to tell is to lie down... does the trickle/drip happen? Then stand up, does it stop? If so, it's your bag of waters, because the baby's head usually acts as a stopper when you stand up, but leaves some room for a trickle when lying down.

The only way to REALLY know for sure is to go to your doctor or the labor/delivery dept and have them do a test (they use a little piece of paper that does a sort of "litmus test" on the fluid to see if it's urine or amniotic fluid.
