Do all doctors start checking for cervical change at 36 weeks?
This is driving me nuts. Some how I've gotten it in my head that 36 weeks is when my OB said they would start checking for cervical change, but I can't remember for sure. My 36 week appointment is next Tuesday. I know for sure that they said they'd be checking for Group Strep B, some kind of thing where they swab your nose and something else. But I can't remember now if they will be doing a pelvic exam or not. I don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed. I mean, that probably seems silly to look forward to getting a pelvic exam, but I want to know if I've started to dilate yet or not!!!

Oh, I can totally relate!!
I think it depends on each person. My Dr. did not check me @ 36 weeks because @ 34 weeks I was having a lot of BH, and she wanted to check me then. I had no cervical change and did not have a lot more BH between then and 36 weeks, so she did not check me again.

I just had my 36 week appointment. They didn't do an exam; however, I still had to get "undressed" because they did the beta-strep test. The nurse said that they don't start checking until they get the results back from that test. I'm assuming that means that they will start poking around @ my next visit (37 wks).

Ok that is what I thought. I don't know how I got it in my head that they did at my doctor but I think it is when I thought I might have lost my mucous plug a few weeks ago and called. I swear the nurse said that they don't start doing checks for cervical change until 36 weeks. But again, my brain went out the window when I got pregnant so I am really not sure. Anyhow, I guess if they do, good and if not then I will just have to wait another week!

Re: Do all doctors start checking for cervical change at 36 weeks?
i just had my 36 wk appt wednesday. he did the strep b and checked me since he was already down there anyway. i wasnt dilated but he said the baby is extremely low. i guess that explains all the pelvic pain and pressure ive been having. i reallly hope ive at least dilated a little at my 37 wk one next week. im gonna be really disappointed if he tells me im closed again. every dr is different so unless you call its hard to say if they will check you or not.
