Re: AFP testing?

I had the quad screen done. I am not sure if that includes AFP or not. If it doesn't then I wasn't offered the AFP with either pregnancy.

Re: AFP testing?

There is AFP testing offered to women under 35, and over 35. At least that's what the booklet refers to. I'm not sure if there is a different type of AFP testing for women over 35. My booklet says, "There is a different booklet for women 35 years and older. These woman should ask their doctor or clinic for the green booklet called: 'Choices in Prenatal Testing for Women 35 Years and Older' "

But I'm pretty sure it's offered to everyone. I'm 24 years old and it's been offered to me. It's a choice whether or not to take the testing. It's not a must.

My doctor informed me that the testing would be $162, insurance does not cover this testing.

Re: AFP testing?

Thanks for responding. The reason I ask is because I just had blood drawn at my last visit. After I left the office I started wondering wether or not it was routine or if they thought perhaps I specifically needed it (like maybe they saw something wrong on my ultrasound or something). I couldn't remember from my first pregnancy. I guess I was just being paranoid. It is so hard not to when you are pregnant. BTW I'm only 27. Thanks for your responses, I feel better.

Re: AFP testing?

I'm not sure if I had the AFP testing done or not. I had an US at 12 weeks and one at 18 weeks. I had blood work done in between those two also. I think that is called quad screen but not sure. I am 37 so they were advising me to get all the testing done, but I just opted for the US and blood work. I also had blood taken my first visit to the OB/GYN. I think that is routine though.
