Spotting?

Is spotting and cramping very early (3-4 weeks) on in a pregnancy normal? Or should I phone my doctor? It is not bright red blood, but brownish in color.

Thanks.

Re: Spotting?

Hi h19
I remember you from the TTC boards! Have you gotten a bfp yet??
Cramping is VERY common in early pregnancy. And spotting can be as well, especially around the time your period is due. I wouldn't worry about calling your doctor quite yet, unless the spotting becomes heavy or lasts more than a few days (after a positive hpt, that is). Let us know what happens!

Re: Spotting?

I did get a BFP! I had it confirmed with a blood test. I am still very nervous...as I'm sure everyone is this early on.

Thanks for the reply!

Re: Spotting?

Brown spotting is very normal. It's just old blood/blood from your missed period. if it becomes bright red, very clotty or extremley crampy, call your doc. good luck!

Re: Spotting?

Congrats! I remember you, too. Did you every have a period?

As long as the bleeding isn't a continuos flow and there isn't any cramping and/or severe lower backached, you should be ok.

You can call your doctor to let them know it happened. They may want you to come in to check your levels. Knowing the levels does help ease your mind. I had some bleeding around 5/6 weeks and my levels were perfect.

Re: Spotting?

Thanks!

No, I never ended up getting a period. My last one was in February.....the only one in 10 months. But, I went for a HSG to see if my tubes were blocked....and about 5 days later I was pregnant! The HSG must have made me ovulate!

I am having a little cramping, but nothing painful. I am just waiting for a call from my doc.

Thanks again!

Re: Spotting?

I am so happy for you!! It's so nice seeing ladies from the TTC board finally graduate to the preg. boards!
No period since February... That must've been tough since you've been trying for so long for your little peanut. But anyways, I'm sure things will go fine, let us know what the doctor says!
Try not to worry about the cramping, I had it for a couple weeks when I first got pregnant and was told by my gp and my ob that it's very common, and most likely nothing serious. Just try to take it easy and not stress. And don't forget those prenatals, and LOTS of rest!!

Re: Spotting?

I ended up going to emerg. last night after I noticed some clotting. My numbers were good (over 8000), but I am still having cramping. The spotting is still there and seems a little worse this morning. I am going for an ultrasound and exam today.

Re: Spotting?

I just got back from my appointment. The baby is in the right place. It is actually measuring 6w5d.....which I don't understand because I know I have only been pregnant for 3 weeks! (Could someone explain that to me!!) We even saw a very faint heartbeat. My doctor is happy so far, but the threat of a m/c is still there. I go back in 3 weeks for another ultrasound. Unfortunately I was not able to ask him any questions because he was called to a birth. I was really hoping to have all my fears and worries put at ease today, but now I seem to have more questions than ever!

Re: Spotting?

Well I'm really happy to hear that everything looks good for the time being, I've been worried since I read your last post. And I know that worry that you're feeling, and all the many questions that you must have. 3 weeks seems like an awful long time to wait... Well, please know that there are a lot of people who can try to understand what you're going through, and that we're here to try and answer any questions you might have. Let us know how you're doing!
