When my water broke with my DS, it was just a little trickle, kind of like I sneezed hard and wet my pants. Don't really know how else to describe it. I actually really thought that I had just wet my pants and went to the bathroom, but when I got up again, more water came out and then I knew. Still, it was only a trickle, not a gush like I've heard some people experience.

It happened around midnight, so I took a shower (I highly recommend you take one before you go to the hospital because who knows how long it'll be before you get another) and then we headed to the hospital. They hooked me up and said that I was having contractions, but I didn't actually start to feel the contractions until around 5 am. So, I did not experience contractions right away.

My doctor had told me to go to the hospital if my water broke whether or not I was contracting, so we did. His reason was that once your water breaks, you and the baby (or babies) are much more vulnerable to infection.
