when I was 12 wks, my dr measured my cervix using an internal ultra sound and it was 4 cm long. when i was 30wks, i went into the hospital to be evaluated, and it was 2 cm. This is effacement. It is the shortening of the cervix caused by the baby pushing down. I asked him if that meant his head was down, and he said no, the babys butt could be pushing down. So, that means I am 50% effaced.
