How long do you bleed after baby?

How long did are you suppose to bleed after having a baby? The reason I ask is I had a c-section 4 weeks ago and I'm still bleeding. I was told it would last a week or two then go to a brown then clear well it hasn't it's still bright red. It's not really heavy or anything only at times I will have a gush other than that it's not bad.
I am just wondering because when I had DS I only bled for a week and it wasn't heavy but for a couple days. I go back for my 6 week check up in 2.5 weeks but should I call before then or is this normal.

Re: How long do you bleed after baby?

Tami-I had a c-section 3 1/2 weeks ago and I am still bleeding. My OB said it could last anywhere from 3-6 weeks. So, I really don't think you have anything to worry about. I also go in about 2 1/2 weeks for my check-up and hopefully all will be cleared up for both of us by then!! Good luck!

Re: How long do you bleed after baby?

I don't think you have to worry--it really varies a lot with different women.
When I had my ds, it lasted about 5 weeks. But I seem to recall my doctor saying it could last up to 6 weeks.
So, if you're still bleeding at your 6 week PP check up, definitely bring it up, but it's probably not necessary to call. Good luck!

Re: How long do you bleed after baby?

Hi Tami,

I am still bleeding as well (4 weeks after c-section). I saw my OB today, and was told that bleeding could occur up to 6 weeks afterwards and not to worry. He also said that it's normal to go from light to heavy and back and forth during that time - especially if you're not mobile and then moving around a lot. The office told me to call only if there are clots larger than golfballs or the bleeding feels excessive.
I hope that you are feeling well otherwise! If you're concerned, I'd call, but it appears that it's totally normal.

Re: How long do you bleed after baby?

Thanks for the replies I didn't know what to think compairing my 2 c-sections because they was completely different. Other than that I am doing great I hit the treadmill last week and that could be some of the reason I'm still bleeding too.
