Difficulty swallowing

Since the beginning of my 5th week pregnancy, I had so much nasal congestion. I feel all my thick nasal discharges are pooling behind my throat when I wake up in the morning. I have been trying to clear my throat every morning and it seems it doesnt go anywhere. I wait for my husband to be in the shower room when I do this because it is very disgusting and gross to even listen to myself clearing my throat.

Im now 9 weeks pregnant and my nasal congestion isnt going away even thou Ive been drinking lots of fluids. When I swallow my saliva, my throat is so sticky that it seems a phlegm is just sitting on top of my throat and not going down hence I keep clearing my throat over and over that I gag and almost puke my belly out. This has been bothering me a lot. When I sneeze, nothing comes out. I feel I have a very thick slug plugging my throat and I am so uncomfortable.

Am I the only one having this. They say, this has something to do with increasing blood volume. Geez..

Re: Difficulty swallowing

I had a lot of congestion with my first pregnancy but just assumed it was natural. Then during my second pregnancy it was worse. WAY WORSE! So I went to the doc and found out I had a sinus infection. It took 4 rounds of antibiotics to clear it out. Once it was gone, after a month, I got another one and had to take more antibiotics. They gave me a z-pak that time and it cleared it out and I didnt have another problem for the rest of my pregnancy. My third I had no congestion at all, and this time with my fourth, only for the first couple days after I found out I was pregnant was i a little stuffy. If It's really really bad, I would have a checkup to make sure your sinuses are not infected.

Re: Difficulty swallowing

P.S. Whatever you do, dont go for the nasal sprays. They cause rebound congestion and then you become dependant on them to breath. This is the worst! This is the reason for the multiple sinus infections with baby two that just wouldn't clear up. Good luck to you!
