Looks positive again?

Hi! (Thanks Kim)
I did take different tests. The first two that read positive were "Early Pregnancy Tests" the last three I took were EPT's.... I can't believe I had to take more than one... but after I read the negative results on the third and fourth test I was disappointed and sad! I took the fifth test this morning and it said positive... the wierd thing is that my daughter and son both read positive and that was that.. but with this little one it has been questionable. This last test you can barely see it.. I had to really look -- but there is a line so we're excited! Does anyone know why the HCG level would read so weak in all the tests? I know they each pick up different levels.. but I never had to do this with the first two babies..???I'm 16 days pregnant now... THANKS!!!

Re: Looks positive again?

Wait, so you are pregnant? My own experience is this.. I took a dip strip and it came up what i believed to be positive and here it turned out to be a evaporation line.. even though it turned up about 2 minutes after I dipped it. But as long as you are using any test but that I would say a line is a line. Congrats.!

Re: Looks positive again?

Hi Outdoormommy - congratulations.

The reason why some tests will come up negative and some positive is because some tests detect a lower level of HCG - some as low as 20 MIU. Others can only detect 100 MIU. Generally, the more you pay for the test - the lower the level of HCG the HPT can detect. Maybe you ovulated later than you thought so that's why your test is coming back faint positive? I'd say if you're seeing your line under the 5 minutes that you're definitely pregnant. I had to wait 2 weeks after my period before I got a bright line - even then I had to use Confirm. WhiteWolf95 mentioned her success with using Confirm and I have to totally agree with her - there was no doubt in my mind that my result was positive - a bright pink line. Other tests like Clear Blue Easy and Equate only gave me faint lines.

You should definitely book an appointment with your doctor though so they can do a urine sample and blood work to confirm the pregnancy and make sure everything is okay.

Congratulations and keep us posted.

Kim

Re: Looks positive again?

Hi. Congrats! I used the test Answer and to my surprise, it came back positive and I was only about 8 days past conception. It is one of the cheapest tests. I even took a First Response (which claims to give results as early as 3 days before you expect your period), and they were negative. I waited two more days and took two more First Response's and they both came back positive. I wonder why they don't say the level of HCG that they detect (20-100 or whatever). I have looked on the boxes to see which ones are more sensitive, but other than First Response, I can't tell the difference, but some are a lot more expensive than others!
