How is it possible that Robitussum produces cervial mucus???? I just don't see how taking a cough syrup can be good for you. what if you were already pregnant in the early stage and then took this??? Has anyone tried this?? I am just concerned that I am not ovulating every month- my cycle is not regular and I don't think I get the egg white mucus. Do you have to have the egg white mucus to get pregnant?
All I know is that Robitussum can help you concieve, the information is on one of the pregnancy boards either in here, or on the Fertilitext Discussion board. I would ask your docotor about the other question. Good Luck!
Angie
Robitussin is an expectorant, which means that if you have a stuffy nose, it loosens the mucus in your nose. It will also thin the cervial mucus and make it easier for the sperm to swim through.
Just because it thins the mucous doesn't mean it helps you ovulate, and that is the problem. If you do ovulate, and still have thick, acidic CM then maybe it will help. If I were you, I'd chart your periods for a couple months and find out how irregular they are. They might be off by a couple of days, or a few weeks, or even a month or two. I know, because I also have very irregular periods. I am pregnant now, thanks to those ovulation tests (and of course my husband). You need to ask your doctor or midwife about this Robitussin thing. If the problem is that you are not ovulating, then I don't think Robitussin will help. If the problem is that your CM is too thick for sperm to get through, then that is a different story. I would definately not go solely on what people say on these boards. They are not experts, and I agree with you that taking a medicine all the time is not good for you. Good luck, and I hope your doctor, or even pharmicist can help you. It is very interesting.
Yeah you are right Molly. I should first chart to find out if I am ovulating. mind you I did finally get my period earlier this month. I did not have pms or any cramping before hand which was strange. I would hate to take this cough syrup because I don't even take tylenol for a headache.
thanks for all the advice
Hi Lori,
If you were pregnant and were taking Robitussin....the baby would be just fine. Actually, on the prenatal list for medicine's that we give to our pregnant patient's list's Robitussin as one of the "safe" medicine's that you may use during pregnancy.
As far as Robitussin thinning out cervical mucus... I've never heard of such a thing...I'll ask another nurse I work with tommorow. I highly doubt this though.
Hi Sunflowers
Thanks for the reply. What I thought the syrup did was increase the CM. Can you still get pregnant if you don't have the Cm like egg whites?? I know that sounds strange but I have never seen this or maybe I am not checking at the right time. if I have cm that is not like egg whites could I still get pregnant?
thanks
Lori
