I know you are supposed to avoid all types of medication when you are pregnant, but does anyone know of something you can take for the occasional screaming headache? It would take me all morning to try and get through to ask my doctor. Thought I would try you guys instead. Also is there any danger in taking a hot bath once in awhile?
For headaches you are able to take Tylenol (regular strength) and Sudifed (regular) with nothing added.
Also I have been warned and even read in a few places that it is not good to take a hot bath for an extended period of time if the water is above 102' - just becareful.

Actually you dont have to avoid all medication while pregnant, not by a long shot. BUT YOU HAVE TO TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR to see what he/she tells you is ok.
You see you really shouldnt take anything until your doctor tells you it is ok. Granted these boards are great for ADVICE but not when it comes to what you can and cant take.
Talk to your doctor and he/she can tell you what is ok to take during pregnancy. You dont even have to set up a visit just call his/her office and talk to his/her nurse or ask to speak to your doctor.
Actually, you could probably just speak to the nurse at your doctor's office, but I think you're safe with Tylenol.
Don't know much about hot baths though I would assume a warm bath would be ok. Maybe just a warm rag on your forehead to relieve the tension there? My mom used to do that when she had a bad headache.
Hi, I thought that maybe I could offer you some help. My doctor told me that Tylenol is completely safe to take. I know how horrible those headaches can be, so believe me when I say that I always carry a ziploc baggy w/tylenol in my purse. Hope this helps!!
Take Care!

GIRL!! I get headaches all the time. I asked the doctor what there was that i could take for them and you know what it is perfectly fine to take tylenol. It is safe for you and your baby. Don't worry just take the meds so that they will go away i know that they hurt. i get them too. as far as taking a hot bath i know that it is not good for you because it can raise your temp as for the babies temp too. but warm baths are okay. i know i loved those hot baths too...
I try dimming the lights in my apartment when I have a killer headache and this seems to help... but as for Tylenol- I always take Extra Strength. Does anyone know if that's a problem? I can't even find Regular Strength...
my doctors office said any strength (except PM) tylenol is fine b/c its acetaminophen--stay away from aspirin and ibuprophin products ie.advil, motrin, aleve.
for other problems tylenol cold, sinus and allergy are okay as well <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">

I get severe headaches at times and I know from experiance that it is safe to take any kind of Tylenol. Also, to help relieve tension .. you can stand under a hot shower (As hot as your body allows! You are not submerged in the hot water for long periods of time so it will not harm the baby.) Only thing with this is leave your shower door or curtain cracked so you don't feel faint! I normally sit in the shower with my back to it and let the hot water relax me! Hope this helps!
Thank you to everyone for your advice. I will definitely try sitting in a hot shower next time. I will really miss my hot baths, but I guess it's not all about me anymore.
if tylenol es works for you, then take it. unfortunately i get migraines all the time and even though i'm preg 6 weeks, my doc is letting me take stadol nose spray, it's a narcotic. i only use it when i'[m ready to throw up and my vision is blurry. i do not reccomend taking anything without talking to your doc to find out what is right for you. this med i'm on is category "C" and shown to be safe during pregnancy. i also took baths with my first two pregnancies and just didn't make them too hot, not a problem. helped with my hemmorhiods too (not to be gross, just a part of life for some of us). take care
For headaches while I was pregnant I was prescribed butalbital, which is barbituates, caffeine and tylenol combined and I also took tylenol with codeine for my headaches while pregnant. AS far as over the counter stuff, tylenol is about all you can take for a headache.
For all the ladies with constant headaches during your pregnancy there is a old wives tales that says:
If you continually have headaches during your pregnancy you should expect a baby girl.
It was right for me. I had no headaches with all 3 of my pregnancies and had all boys. Not sure how accurate it is for anyone else though.
