I have heard that the heartrate of the baby can determine the sex, but I don't believe it. I have read that it is a wivestale. Does anyone know about this? Has it proven true for anyone? And which is which - slow or fast for a boy or girl? I am just curious, because my friend yesterday said "ok I think you're going to have a boy" when I told her the heartrate was 169. Thanks for your replies.
First off, it is an old wives tale. You can't determine the sex of the baby by the HR. If you listen long enough the baby's HR will change. We listened to my baby's hr for 7 mins at my last ob appt, and it went from 167 to 143 in that time. The HR changes so you can't say specifically what you are having by that. Okay, for the second part, they say if the hr is slow(around 140 give or take) you are having a boy. If the hr is fast(around 160 give or take) you are having a girl. You always have the 50/50 chance of guessing right.
Hi Molly! Congrats on the healthy pregnancy!
I don't think the heartrate tale is completely true. I had a home doppler with a heartrate monitor and it always ran in between 163 - 167. But it's a boy. I tried almost all of those prediction tests...Drano, online tests, heartrate, Chinese Lunar prediction, etc. etc. and they ALL pointed to girl. So I guess you never know until you KNOW. Gotta see what's down there I suppose. Do you "want" a boy or a girl? (I know, I know - we all just want healthy)

To be honest, and I know it sounds horrible, but I would rather have another girl. I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter and I think it would be wonderful to have a sister to grow up with. Brothers are great too, don't get me wrong, but I see a closeness with sisters that is different. Also, I just can't see myself raising a boy. My daughter wants a brother, and my husband wants a boy too. Of course I really just want a healthy baby.
Umm, if the heart rate thing was true my son should be a girl!! Well, we did call him Kaitlynn for 5 months!! But really I wouldn't put any stock in the heartrate deal or how you are carrying the baby. I carried my son sooo high..and everyone knew I was having a girl. Oh well, maybe I'll get one this try!!

Smile, life doesn't last that long.
Well, it sounds like everyone so far knows what thier talking about. My hb was very slow, they thought I was a boy for the longest time, but long behold out came a girl!

Hello Everyone!
Same thing with me! I have had the heartbeat of a boy throughout this whole pg, and the ultrasound has said girl...not one, but 3 TIMES! Needless to say I have a feeling that it is a wives tale...but wouldnt it be nice if that was a real shot at knowing? Than we wouldnt have to guess so much! I never knew what I was having with my other pg, this is the first I have ever gotten to know before the delivery! But goodluck to you all and with all of your pg!
