what to expect from specalist

I just saw my doctor for the pap test and it went fine. I told him that we have been ttc for 3-4 months. my cycles are not regular and they were not regular before I took the pill. He told me to wait 2 more months and then i could be referred to a specalist since my cycle has never been regular. What should I expect from the specalist??? I am assuming they will do u/s and blood work. I just don't want to take Clomid or anything else.

Re: what to expect from specalist

I don't know about specialists or anything but I saw you said you have been trying for 3-4 months. I tried for 6 months straight before it happend. I just wanted to tell you so you don't feel abnormal or anything for it taking too long. Keep your hope up!

Re: what to expect from specalist

Hi Purraby
Thanks for the reply. I realize it can take that long. My doctor said the only reason he would have me see a specalist so soon is because my periods are so long or they don't come at all. I had this problem before going on the pill. Congrats on your pregnancy.

Re: what to expect from specalist

Hi Lori. My cycles have always been long too, or sometimes absent. I had no problem conceiving any of the times. I just want to let you know that just because you have long cycles doesn't mean you are not ovulating. I thought typically they didn't refer couples to a specialist for infertility until after a year of trying (unless you are older). Hang in there. Unfortunately I didn't answer your question, but maybe someone who has gone through a specialist will read your post and be able to help. Good luck.

Re: what to expect from specalist

Hi Molly
My doctor did say that they normally wait 1 year before referring. He said since my period was irregular before I took the pill that he does not think I am ovulating. I will hang in there and see what happens.

Re: what to expect from specalist

Lori I'm sorry you are having trouble. I have long, short, irregular, anything you can imagine periods. I hardly ovulated and I have endometriosis. Don't let him worry you too much b/c that can hurt ovulation. Something I found out with this preg. I sometimes ovulate 2 eggs. UGG! No twins..one didn't make it. I understand the whole irregularity thing. My hubby and I found out the less sex we have the easier it is for me to get preg. We did it EVERYDAY for 5 months. Then I got sick, had a period, then had sex after 3 weeks of no sex and boom I had my son. With this preg. We were trying to adjust our sex life to having a baby and we weren't having sex that often. I just happened to have sex exactly 2 weeks after I went off my period and boom baby number 2. This all from the girl who isn't supposed to have a baby. Who knew??
