I have recently had some bad heart palpitations. It's not after I've done any kind of exercise or anything. Today I was just sitting reading a book to my daughter and there it happened. It is so scary because it feels like my heart is going to jump out of my chest!! It happens sometimes right before I go to bed at night too. It doesn't happen that often, but when it does it's very scary for me. I will be talking to my midwife about it soon. Does anyone else who is pregnant have this happen occasionally? I am hoping it has something to do with the extra blood circulating and extra work a pregnant woman's heart has to do. I am only 10 - 11 weeks, not really overweight (though I could have been in better shape before getting pregnant!) I've had heart palpitations in the past, occasionally, but nothing comparing to this! It really feels like my heart is flipping upsidown and back a couple times. Then it's back to normal. Thanks for any replies, which I hope there are.
Ive been getting those too and they are quite scary. I get them while still, walking, it doesnt matter what I am doing at the time. Ive been stressed out and not getting enough sleep, which makes it alot worse, but Im not identifying it as a health concern at this time, because as disturbing as an episode can be, it seems to have no permanent effect on me. Just a few moments of my heart trying to burst out of my chest.
I have the same prob. I even went to see my doc for it, and he was like, "Could you be pregnant?" And I was like, "NO!" I was insulted. Turns out I may be though. Hope you are okay. Nikky
Hi Matilda,
I have those also. I started getting them around 8 - 9 weeks. A few times I even got close to going to the ER or calling 911 because I thought I was having some sort of heart attack. I talked to my doctor about them and he was suprisingly calm and said they're fairly normal during pregnancy and are nothing to be concerned about as long as they don't happen too consistently throughout any given day. He said it's even normal for pregnant women to develop heart murmurs during pregnancy because of the extra effort our hearts are having to put out and the extra amount of blood it has to adjust to. My doctor is a high risk specialist and my pregnancy is still considered high risk, so I'm guessing if these heart pains were anything to worry about he'd say something. So I'd suggest maybe mentioning them to your doctor at your next visit, but doing your best to not worry. I sometimes feel like my heart is going to burst through my chest and it can be a bit frightening, but apparently there's nothing to be concerned about. I hope this helped.
Thank you so much for your replies. It makes me feel a lot better about it. I guess it is pretty common in pregnancy. I will still mention it to my midwife, but at least now I know its relatively normal. Thanks,
