I was wondering if anyone knows what actually causes yeast infections...other than antibiotics? I'm not any and I seem to have a yeast infection that isn't responding to medications...and I find I'm allergic to them (the meds) anyway...I'm eating yogurt...any ideas anyone?
You will probably laugh at this, but last time I had a yeasy infection the nurse told me to buy plain yogurt and to fill some yeast infection cream treatment applicators with the yogurt and use that instead of the meds. It is natural and gets rid of yeast infections really well. Or, you can buy acidophilus (sp) tablets (yogurt pills) at the pharmacy and take that instead. My cousin takes acidophilus tablets every time she has to take antibiotics and since she started doing that, she doesn't get yeast infections anymore.
As for what causes them, here's a link about it:

Oh thank you thank you! I was wondering about that...I don't think the yogurt would burn either if I used that! I am going to try it!!!! And thanks for the link!
I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this, because I am not advertising anything, but trying to only help. Try going to:

Autumnleaves, believe me when I say, I HAVE BEEN THERE! There was a long period of time when I was getting a yeast infection at least every other month! My doctor suggested that I take warm baths with NOTHING added to it every couple of days to get my “good yeast” to flourish. Make sure to drink plenty of water (still my downfall – but I am coping), try to eat foods that contain live cultures, i.e., yogurt or take the pill form of acidophilus – which is what my mother gave me, because she too suffers from YI’s quite often and knock on wood, I haven’t had one in about 3 or 4 months! Oh, and not to be gross, try to make sure that your DH/partner is clean – dirty = bad bacteria to me! As with any medication or vitamin, consult your doctor before taking them to make sure that it’s o.k. Also, I noticed that while taking my BC pill, YI’s were more reoccurring, after I stopped, I feel a whole bunch better! If the above website is of no help, then try this one: http://www.bodyandfitness.com/Information/Womenhelath/candida.htm
Thanks Momamerican and Epiphany. I've just started getting them within the last two years. And I understand what you are saying about my DH being clean. We never fool around without coming out of tub or shower first. And he is circumcised, so I am sure that helps. I appreciate all the input and thanks for the resources as well. It looks like it can also happen right before your period (mine is due) or when you are pregnant (mine is 2 days overdue, but no other pg symptoms). I also wonder if stress can bring it on? I don't use anything in the bath water but I do wonder if it could be the soap I use?
Yep, stress and too much sugar in your diet...I forgot to mention earlier. Also, check your soap - don't use a wash rag in that special spot! They hold too many germs! Good luck!
Hi Autumnleaves....I wish I had something to tell you besides what you already know. I have been lucky I guess I have only had one yeast infection in my life and that was when I was about 19 and back then I was using vaseline for lube for intercourse I thought it was safe and all natural or close and my Doc sid thats what caused it. I think hormones too might cause a build up of yeast but dont quote me though. I hope you get an answer and things clear up for you. Have a great day.

Thanks so much, everybody! I am very stressed these days (DH lost job, ttc, hating my job...the list goes on). I don't use washrag there! Just soap and hands. I do love SUGAR (believe it or not, I am not as crazy as the average person about chocolate...but give me sugar!!!!)
Anyway, I bought the plain yogurt and injected it last night. Feels much better already. Also bought the acidophilus, took one last night, one this a.m. I am also eating FLAVORED yogurt for breakfast. I think the infection may have gone from yeast to bacterial and we checked the internet last night. The symptoms now fit the bacterial type and they said treating with yogurt and acidophilus too. I hope it helps because my insurance hasn't quite kicked in yet so can't go to doc's! They won't take me without proof of insurance; I tried yesterday!
Anyway! Thank you all for your support!!!!
