When do you start showing?

I'm just curious, since this is my first pregnancy. When do most women start showing? I'm sure it depends on a woman's size - I'm about 5'6 and 135lbs. I'm wondering how long I'll be able to keep this a secret from my colleagues. My boss knows - I had to confide in her because I needed to postpone a business trip abroad. But I'd love to keep this a secret from others for about four months. Also, when did those of you who've been through this have to start wearing maternity clothes. I'm wondering how prepared I'll need to be. Thanks for your help!

Re: When do you start showing?

Well I don't think my case is like yours since I was 206 before pg and 5'8", but I was outta my jeans by about 6wks along because it was too uncomfortable. I was in maternity clothes when I was just 12 wks. along.

But I did meet a lady who is probably about your size and she is just now thinking about maternity clothes and she is about 13 wks. You can't see it at all on her.

Have you ever asked your mom how it was for her? That could be a clue for you. My mom said she pretty much started growing her belly right away - same in my case.

Hopefully some of this helps.

God Bless,

Re: When do you start showing?

I was about 135lbs and 5'3" with my first pg. I definately started to notice my jeans getting tight at 10wks (especially if you overeat!). You could get away with stretchy cotton pants and a bigger shirt until MAYBE four months. How fun !!! I wish I could have enough restraint to NOT tell people for that long! -J

Re: When do you start showing?

At your size which was mt friend's size, she showed at 4 months too on her first pregnancy. I just read an important fact that it is best for your state of mind that you shouldn't really tell EVERYONE until you hear or see a heartbeat (in your 6th to 12th week). It is proven that your pregnancy has less risk of (notno risk at all but less of one) after hearing/seeing the heartbeat. Risk is lowered after week 12 anyway. I had to tell employees when I was the only one refusing the flu shot!

Re: When do you start showing?

I am 5'6, and weigh 135lb. I went to put on my favorite pair of jeans today, and I had a hard time buttoning them. So here I am....sitting at work.....with my jeans unbuttoned because they were just too tight.
I though to myself...this is CRAZY. I'm not even 7 weeks yet, and I can't wear my jeans?? I'm hoping I just put them in the dryer too long...thats why they are too tight.

Re: When do you start showing?

Thanks for the info everyone! I've been feeling really bloated too, but I wasn't sure if it was the pregnancy or if I was just eating too much. LOL
[This message has been edited by kmc235 (edited 02-06-2003).]

Re: When do you start showing?

Hey Heaven-Sent I did the same thing when I was about 6 or 7 wks. I just couldn't keep those things buttoned and would always make sure I wore a bigger shirt to cover! LOL I am glad I wasn't the only one!! Then I had to resort to sweat pants until the last couple of weeks when I finally got some maternity clothes at a consignment store.

Re: When do you start showing?

I am sitting here laughing, because I am also sitting here, at work, on casual Friday, with my jeans unbuttoned. They seemed snug when I put them on this morning, but sitting at my desk is just too much! I suspect this is not the dryer's fault. I am 5'8", and 140, so I am about the same size, just a bit taller. I am 6 1/2 weeks and BLOATED! My bb are sore, and my belly feels big, hence my jeans are being pulled forward for my belly, so my jeans are too tight across my butt! I should have known not the try jeans. This will definately be my last casual Friday with Jeans. I don't feel as though I am showing, but I am definately bloated, so my body is different to me, but everyone else will probably just think I have put on a few pounds. The scale says I have only gained a pound. I would really like to say I am showing, but I know that pouch on my belly was there 2 months ago too!

Re: When do you start showing?

Hey I am in the jeans too and so since I lost weight in my waist (not in my tummy from baby) I can scoot them below the belly. Actually my tummy forces itself out of my jeans and over. I wish I wore a longer shirt today........

Re: When do you start showing?

You are all sooo cute and funny!! LOL You all make me laugh because since I've been there with the pants unbuttoned it brings back those days and memories. I had to be careful though when I would get up and had to remember to button them!

Have a great day ladies and happy growing!!
