MACROBID & TTC????!!!!!

Please tell me if you're familiar with this....I take Macrobid after intercourse to prevent urinary tract infections. If I don't take it after EVERY time, I usually end up getting a bladder infection. I am going to being trying to conceive, and I am concerned....my gynocologist said that it's okay to stay on the macrobid, however I left a message with my urologist to get a second opinion, and he said that I should stop taking it. IT'S A CATCH 22!!! I can't have sex without my macrobid, and I can't get pregnant without sex!! Has anyone had this experience?? Please help!!!!

Re: MACROBID & TTC????!!!!!

I'm not sure about conceiving on macrobid, but I'd think it's okay. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and my doctor just prescribed it for a bladder infection. So if it's alright during pregnancy I'd think it would be alright for conception also. Sorry I don't have any facts. Good luck! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">

Re: MACROBID & TTC????!!!!!

Call the pharmacist and ask what the pregnancy drug classification of macrobid is. If it is a "A or B" then go with your OB/GYN. If it is a "C or D" You could also ask what the half life of the medication is. You would probably still be okay to take it during the time you're trying to concieve - during ovulation. Then you could avoid intercourse until you either started you're period or you get a positive test.

You could also try to look up this medication on the internet and get that information too.
