Okay, hope I don't step on toes here, and not sure if I should be sending this in, but here we go. I'm big into herbs, and natural medicine and can say that I've done this cleanse before and I don't know why it wouldn't help you guys get preg. It is a herbal aid for the female reprodutive organs... in other words it rebuilds your ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, etc. If these organ possibly not be working to well in you body? If you think that is the case then this should be able to help you. I went from having HEAVY,HEAVY, 14 day long, throwing up, bed ridden kind of periods, some times I would skip 2 months and look out for the next one. Only codine would take some relief from the cramps. After I did this cleanse, I had 4 day long, regular, little or no cramps and I was a totally new person. So try if you wish, I'm not saying it's cheap, but well worth it for me, just for the relief of AF, maybe this could help you.
3 parts Golden seal root
1 part Blessed thistle
1 part Cayenne
1 part Cramp bark
1 part False unicorn root
1 part Ginger
1 part Red raspberry leaves
1 part Squaw vine
1 part Uva ursi
I left out the False unicorn, because it's about $175.00 per pound.... YIKES!!!! I just took these herbs in these amounts and ground them up in a coffee grinder, filled the capsules. I took 6 a day for 90 days, and it worked for me, but I do know you can take more than 6 in a day. I put my mom on these and she was going through the change and it helped her SO much but she took it for 120 days. Hope his helps, tell me if any of you guys try it and if it works for you. Baby Dust

Lilmom, thanks so much for posting all that help about herbs! And no, you're not stepping on any toes! I really appreciate the time taken to write it all out
In my case, I have regular AF with Ibuprofen -controlled pain , which last for around 4 days.
If your post can help any of the other ttc'ers, I would be so happy! Hope someone sees it.
I'm into herbs too. I actually work for a chain of healh food stores in my area. Personally, I take chasteberry (aka vitex) daily (just one capsule) and that helps keep me on a 28 day schedule. Prior to using it, I would range from 29 to 35, even more sometimes. I have read in several books that it is safe to use while TTC.
I'm glad you have found herbs to work for you as well. They are a God-send!
Many Blessings to you!
Tried the herb thing didnt do squat for me execpt be a waste of moeny. Oh wait actually it did do one thing, screwed up my cycle for two cycles and my temps were all over the place.
So do be careful because what works for one person doesnt always work for another.
I agree with blastoff on what works for one doesn't work for another. That is so true with a lot of things. Luckily we have choices. How much were you taking? I have always keep my dosage low - one capsule a day. Going to 12 would be quite an increase. I know mine is standardized, which helps.
Lilmom, is the 12 cap/day dosage for standardized or non-standardized?
I believe too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, so I am careful with what I take, especially since I am TTC.
Appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks for responding.
[This message has been edited by cindyn (edited 01-04-2003).]
While ttc #2 my various doctors told me to avoid the herbals at least until all other things failed.
With ttc #3 I decided to give it a go before I returned to all the stuff involved in going to REs and such. Though now I have told DH that if AF shows up around the 13/14(like she is suppose to) then I will start all the RE stuff again. I am hoping AF wont show but knowing my luck it will.
O.K., I am also curious as to the effects of herbs on women ttc. I was doing a search on the web, and decided to look in the sample pages of TCOYF on amazon. Well, I don't have my book yet, but in the index, it says that you can find info about herbs on pgs 172-174. If one of you would be willing to check the info and get back to us, I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Thanx
Ok in my book those pages are actually the start of chapter 14 which is What Next? Tests and Treatments that maybe necessary to achieve pregnancy.
Though she does list some book for looking into alternative medicine and such.
But I got mine at a discount store so the revised edition has more than mine. Guess I might have to get the new version....
I own two books that state vitex is good for fertility - Herbal Healing for Women by Rosemary Gladstar and The Complete Woman's Herbal by Anne McIntryre. I haven't purchased Taking Control of Your Fertility yet, but I remember seeing it mentioned in there as well when I looked at the book at the book store. I beleive it states that it is ok. I thought it was ok to use, so I didn't think much of seeing it in there. If anyone has the book and can fill us in that would be great.
All of the research i've done and the people i've talked to say that low dosage of vitex will give you the regularity of AF and balance your hormones, but higher dosages of this will promote Pregnancy. I guess what works for one of course won't work for all, as any med. you will need to find what works best for you.
Hope I didn't offend.
Well, I know I'm not offended I am glad we got on this subject. It may sound silly, but I drink a lot of herbal tea, and was wondering if it would have any neg effect. Or, like you were talking about the vitex, I will try anything that will help me get pg!! By the way, where do you find vitex? Do you get it from a health food store? Or can it be found at any drugstore? Is it prescription???? I am interested in finding out more info. I will do a search on it when I am done here and see if I can find something.
As to the pages that I said earlier, they were from the newer version of tcoyf, I should be getting mine by the 14th. Hopefully I will find good info on the subject. I wish it wasn't taking them so long to ship it to me, I am getting impatient!!! (more excited actually) I just hope it will help out.
I have a quick question, to those of you who are charting, how many days average do you stay at the same temp right after o ? (another thing where I am too impatient to wait for the book) I know everyone is different, but if you could just give me and idea, I would appreciate it. Thanx
Actually it was. I tried other herbs in the follwoing cycles and had no problems. Not sure why the Vitex messed things up but that was the only time they were truly messed up.
After O my temp doesn't stay the same. This month it's gone steadily up for 5 days. After that a steady decline. Which prob means AF. If you're PG, then your temp should stay up.
Nela.
Thanx for the info ladies. I have just started charting, but it was in the middle of my cycle. It turns out that dh and I bd on the day that I o-ed this cycle. We were using the ovusoft program and with all of the information I gave, it said I should have o-ed on the 4th, but according to my body signs (fluid, and cervix) I had o-ed 3 days earlier, and we had already bd-ed on that day??? But, my temp had been 97.9 for a few days, and today it was 97.7. I had a messed up period last month, I only spotted for one day, skipped a day, then barely spotted for one more day. I have NEVER had that happed before. I took a hpt, but it was - Ithink I am going to get an ovulation detector so I can compare it to when I think I am o-ing. This sucks!
purp - I am wondering the same thing. I hope I didn't offend anyone either. Since I work for a health food chain, I am used to people recommending things to me and researching it accordingly. Personally, I don't know anyone who has taken it and has gotten pregnant. I started taking this because of some of the reading I did. I don't want many people to know I am TTC because then you get everyone's opinions and a thousand questions if you are pg yet - you know the routine. I told a couple of nutritionists so I can get their opinions on supplements. Unfortunately, I didn't ask them if they knew of anyone who used it and got pg. I'll ask and post the response. Anybody else know of anyone who used vitex and got pg?
