Sorry about that Star39. I am just thinking Whitewolf and I are really talking about the same time period when the heart starts beating, but I don't know if she understands what I'm saying. I don't know how to be more clear, but whatever. Maybe I'm missing something. My point to YOU was that if you are not exactly sure of your date of conception, then you could be off a little and it's possible that a heartbeat will be detected when you go in again. Anyway, good luck to you and sorry your post had to bring up so much dispute. It makes me curious though how many people count their pregnancy starting from conception rather than two weeks earlier. I posted a question on that. Now I'm thinking maybe I'm in the minority, but when I read all the books, articles, and even websites I look up about the development of the fetus, it seems that when someone says 6 weeks of pregnancy, that means 4 weeks past conception. I really don't want to get on anyone's bad side, which seems like I have already done, so I'll drop it. Hopefully other readers of this post will understand what I'm saying though.
Oh and another thing I have been told by doctors and my midwife is that the earlier an ultrasound is done, the more accurate it is. Like within a couple days. How big or small a baby is going to be really doesn't show up til a lot later. Like say if you have an ultrasound done during week 20, the age of the fetus could be off by as much as a week or two. Or so I've been told.
I went in to get an u/s done when I first found out and I was about 6.5-7 weeks, I went in the following week just to make sure everything is ok, and asked if I could hear the heartbeat and he said it was too early, but that doctor was a ---, so who knows. I also heard that a baby's heart starts at 6 weeks, but sometimes can't be seen or heard for a few more weeks. Good luck and keep us posted! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">
I just want to post one more time to tell everything that I could not have made it through this past week and a half without your support. I just got back from the Dr. and he is scheduling me for a D&C tomorrow. I saw the u/s and the sac was barely there. His diagnosis is 'blight ovum' so it looks like there was nothing ever in the gestational sac. My husband and I were going to be going to Brazil before I got pregnant to do a donor egg program. We will probably continue in that direction when the Dr. says it is okay to do so.
I am going to be strong and confident that I will become pregnant over the next year.
