Am I the only pregnant person around that gets these or what???
During my first pregnancy, 8 years ago, I got these awful headaches. The worst I've ever had. It hurt to see, hear, and move. Then after a short while I just feel sick to my stomach, my mouth waters, like it does when you're going to throw up, and I feel as though I could throw up, except that my head hurts so bad that I don't even want to move. These headaches only went from about 4 months to begining of 7 months pregnancy. I recently researched migraines on the internet, and found that these are the symptoms of a migraine headache, and that it is common to get these during pregnancy. I am now 13 1/2 weeks pregnant and I am starting to get these headaches again! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif"> I hate it, and it doesn't just last one day here and there, it's all afternoon and several times a week. If it gets really bad, then it goes all night and to the next day.
Anyways my point is....Am I the only one??? Why am I getting these? I don't hear of anyone else. Do any of you guys get these migraines during pregnancy?
I haven't had headaches like this since I was pregnant the last time, and I just don't get any kind of headaches that often when I am not pregnant.
I can understand where you are coming from. My family tend to have migraines especially the women. I started getting mine when I was about 13 or 14 and I am now 27. Those that never have them cant even begin to understand the pain that is involved.
Anyway I did have a few while pregnant with my first son which I hate to say was a relief because I was expecting much worse. For me they werent so bad while I was pregnant with him. The funny thing is with my second son I didnt have even one migraine. I kept waiting for one to happen but it never did.
Though about two weeks after my second son was born I got one.
You can talk to your doctor because there are some meds that are safe to take while pregnant for migraines. They normally start off with Tylenol with Codine to see if that will help. There are some other drugs that are listed as safe to take during pregnancy..you just have to talk with your doctor to see what steps he/she wants to take.
I just did talk to him on Tuesday, he okay'd taking the excedrin also, but I got the warning again about not using it in the last 3 months of pregnancy. I did this with my first pregnancy and it worked for me. He told me to start with one pill as soon as I start feeling it come on, and not to wait and let it get worse before taking something. Which is what I had been doing. I didn't want to take anything, so I'd just drink lots of water and lie in bed and suffer. Because if I had a normal headache, this would normally work for it.
So by the time I'm ready to start crying (hurts to cry, so the tears just run down my face) and thowing up from the pain, that is when I decide to take some tylenol. Tylenol doesn't touch the pain.
I tried this last night, and it worked! Though somedays all day long I seem to have a slight constant pain. Sometimes it gets a little bit worse and then some times it gets tremendously worse. Every day is different. So it's hard to know when to take a pill because I don't know if or when that pain is going to get worse.
With my second pregnancy I had horrible headaches for about the first 5 months. I Asked my doc and he said it was because of the changing of hormones, and that they should be stopping soon, and they did.
I hope you get something to help them. Have you asked your doctor?
Good luck!
You are definitely not the only one. I see women with bad headaches on other pregnancy boards all the time. It's due to the changing hormones. I suffer with them terribly. I am always popping Tylenol but I suffer all day before it goes away. Mine flair up when I don't eat enough and I'm also having a problem with my sinuses. My doc prescribed Claritin and I make sure I eat a large snack before I go to bed and that minimizes them. They are awful. I just lay in bed all day when I get them. Very painful. Make sure you tell your doctor if they don't go away. You don't have to suffer like that.
I've been getting terrible headaches too although I don't know if they would be considered migranes. My dr. prescribed tylenol w/codine for times that it's unbearable. I have taken them a few time and it does help. Not as much as I'd like but better than nothing. He swears this medicine is safe in pregnancy so maybe ask your dr. Good luck.
I get terrible headaches when preg. too. They gave me tylenol w/codine..even after I told the dumb er doc I was allergic..needless to say it didn't work for me. I do take excedrine migraine the minute I feel a headache coming on and I eat some kind of trailmix or fruit and I lay down. This seems to help. It isn't good to be that upset and in pain..it affects the baby. If you are really scared of taking something take just plain tylenol or tylenol pm..maybe it will knock you out enough to sleep the pain off. My doc said either one is fine but ask your doc. Something I had to do several times is go to the ob floor and get a shot of demerol or a loratab. They gave me this b/c of all the pain and how upset I was getting.
