Has anyone heard about using a topical pain reliever like Ben Gay or Rub A535? I am having a lot of leg pain due to Charlie-Horses from cramps in the night. I have a spinal cord injury (I just walk with a cane), and the medications I usually take 6 times per day are to relieve the spasms that a spinal cord injury creates anyhow in your legs. But, off the meds AND pregnant, I am just dying! I have a permanent sore muscle on the inside of my leg just above my knee. My dh is a weight-lifter and thought this would help, but I wanted to seek any knowledge or rumors about the stuff first. I'll ask my doctor too when I see him in a few weeks.
Thanks ladies! EDD Oct 1/03
I'm not sure about the bengay. Have you considered adding more potassium to your diet? I've heard eating banana's helps with the middle of the night charlie horses! But, I'm not 100% on this. I would ask your doc if there is some food you could eat to naturally give your body some of what it's missing.
This type doesn't have to do with food, actually. It is a reaction of my brain waves trying to get through the part of my spinal cord that is now missing. I do take extra potassium and calcium anyhow, though. This is something I will always have, it is just hard off my medications. That is why I thought BenGay or Rub A535 may help some.
We have used mineral ice and I heard that ben gay is ok if used sparingly. You should probably check with your doc or pharmisist just to be sure though. take care <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif">
