Downs screening 1:43...

We just recently had our bloodwork come back and we tested high risk of downs, 1 in 43 chance. We are scheduled for a level 2 ultrasound Monday morning. At face value, 1:43 sounds decent, but Ive heard of many babies being down syndrome with better odds than us. Dont know what Im really asking, Im just freaking out a little and having a hard time bearing the wait til ultrasound. How accurate is the screening tests? Is there more than likely a problem?

Re: Downs screening 1:43...

Hi im in the same possition im 17 weeks preg & only 24yrs & midwife called me to say im high risk for downs being 1/40 & am sooo scared.. I have 2 kids & they were both low risk 1st being 1/1600 2nd being 1/1400 so going from so high to only a 1/40m with my 3rd he/she must have downs because they would of had to pick up something from my bloods as other kids were fine. I have got my amnio 2mora & find out for defo in 5days apparantly really dont know what to think anyone been in the same situation??

Thanks Laura

Re: Downs screening 1:43...

My sister in law was given a 1:2 chance of downs after advanced screening. After alot of consideration, they decided to continue with the pregnancy;

Her little girl was born with Turner's syndrome and not Down's. Girl's with Turner's syndrome can live relatively uncomplicated lives, except for infertility.

I guess what i'm trying to say is; maybe there is a problem but maybe it's not as complicated as Down's?

Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.
