Question Pap smears and pregnancy

When it is confirmed that you are pregnant, what are the procedures? By that I mean are you required to have a pap smear and all that jazz? And a breast exam? I'm just curious, thanks!

Hi, I can only speak from my experience and the way my OBGYN does things. But yes, when you go to your first appointment, they will give you another pregnancy test, do a pap smear (if your last one wasn't done recently) and a breast exam. The doctor will feel your uterus to check for size according to your last menstrual period and they will listen for the heartbeat with a doppler although you may not hear it yet if you are really early.

Like I said, this is just my own experience. I have been pregnant three times (I am 15 weeks pregnant with my third baby) and I have been going to the same doctor for all three pregnancies, so maybe all doctors don't do things the same way for a first appointment.

Good luck!

My experience was similar to sweetmelf's. My last pap smear had been about 3 months prior to getting pregnant, so I didn't need another one. My doctor did take a swab to test for infection though.

Best of luck!
