Had 1st OB appointment today... got to keep u/s pictures! Question about u/s...
Well, I had my first OB appointment this morning!
Everything went well and looked great! My Dr said everything is fine! I guess that horrible bleeding i had a few weeks ago was just a fluke (at least I'm hoping it never happens again). I had an ultrasound and got to see the heartbeat again (saw it the 1st time in the ER at 5 1/2 weeks). My Dr even printed 2 pictures of the baby for us to keep. Of course, DH and I went to Kinko's right after the Dr appointment to make copies of the ultrasound pics and mailed them to our family members in Easter cards for a nice suprise! My EDD is still 12/03/03
My Dr only does 2 u/sounds... i had this one today at 7 weeks, and she only does 1 more at 7 months! Is that normal to only get 2 u/sounds? I'm angry about that since I think I should have more than two! Is this the norm? I'd at least like an u/s sometime in my 2nd trimester! Anyone tell me if this is normal?
My Dr. would normally do only 1 u/s around 20 weeks. They only do multiple u/s to find out your actual due date if you don't know around what time conception took place and they will do others if you have bleeding or other complications. so yes I think it is normal.
I just reread my post and I sounded really bitter and that's really not the case, just bad choice of words I guess. I think that you are really lucky, I would have like to see my baby before 20 weeks!
Isn't it great to have a visual proof that we are indeed pregnant? It makes everything more real!
belly rubs to you and congratulations on your pregnancy!

IT'S A GIRL!!!
I had one around 10 weeks and another at 21 weeks. That is all they will do if there are no complications. You will get to hear the heartbeat at every appointment though.
Reminder that you can/may have a 2nd trimester u/s (a Level 2 u/s) if you decide to do any of the genetic testing. We did due to our age, me 39 and DH 46. You should have one around 20 weeks to ensure everything's okay. I wouldn't wait until 7 months.
I am considered high risk for several reasons, age, previous blood clots, and I have a fibroid behind my uterus. So we've done and will do a lot just to continue to make sure baby is growing okay. So there are times or conditions where they may give you more. Just FYI: Last week I was 17 weeks and that's when they do the AFP genetic tests if you want and also a Level 2 (very detailed) u/s. Just so you know some of your options.
Take care and I pray you can get another u/s in 2nd trimester to ensure all is fine. In love and light.
Robyn, I think you're right. Insurance won't cover it unless it can be proven "medically necessary." I've already had 4 u/s, but I was a private pay patient for my first, and diagnosed with placenta previa on my second. My doc has to keep a constant check on the position of the placenta, and as I get closer to term, he will have to continue to do u/s to check my progress since any vaginal exam could cause extreme bleeding. I know my insurance tried to refused to cover them until the doctor proved them "medically necessary."
But he normally only does one at 20 weeks unless there is some question about conception and needs to do an early one to get the EDD.

This might sound silly, but be thankful if you only have one or two ultrasounds. A normal, healthy pregnancy doesnt call for any more than that. While it is always nice to see your little one, doctors wont do unnecessary ultrasounds because, well, they are unnecessary! With my first, I had the standard 2 u/s. With my second I had three, because the first one was "too" early (4 weeks).
With my last, I had no less than 10 u/s. While it was kind of nice to see my little guy that often, it also somehow made each one less special. Also, the complications that called for that many u/s were very stressful for me.
Yes it is normal to get two. I had my first one to find out my due date and then the second of course to make sure all is well and see the sex!! I did have one in between because she wouldn't cooperate for the heart doppler so they did a quick one.
Just enjoy the times you do get to see your little one and like fntsyangel said that way they are more special too!
