Do twins stem from the mother or father's side? My DH has twins all over his family, I would choke. He has twin sisters, cousins(on father's side), cousin on his mother's side has twins, twin uncles on mother's side. I think there's another set on his father's side too but not sure where. None on my side.
It depends on the type of twins. Fraternal (non-identical) can only come from the mother, because it involves 2 different eggs.
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that identical twins can come from either side, since identical twins are derived from the same egg. So it would depend on what KIND of twins run in your husband's family.
On that note, if it is fraternal twins, then while you would not become pregnant with twins, any daughter between you would be at higher "risk" for having twins when she grew up!
What a good question? I too have been wondering that. I hadn't even really thought of the possiblity of twins until my grandmother told me that, that may possibly be the reason I have been so incredibly sick with morning sickness (all day & all night Sickness). It is constant. I have never pucked so much in my life. My doctor put me on medication for it and it only dulled it. I still feel horrible all the time but I just don't puck as much. I still puck for an hour straight in the morning though. Eww. I have also gained 10 pounds already and I am only 8 weeks preg. So I have been really wondering if mabey I am having twins because twins are in my family. I have an appointment on May 16 and they will be doing a ultrasound then, so hopefully I will know for sure then. I can't wait to find out!
My doctor told me they don't know most of the time until you have your U/S. They will listen for you heart beat, but once they hear one they stop looking. Unless you are measuring bigger than you should be. But I'm sure each Dr. has a different approach.
