Lightbulb Stretching the perineum- info for PG women

Caution- Graphic

I was reading one of my baby magazines and it mentioned an "exercise" PG women can do to stretch the perineum to reduce the likelihood of needing an episiotome. It said to wash your hands really well and apply some KY Jelly/cocoa butter/or oil to the perineum. Then insert your thumbs (or have your partner do it if you can't reach) about an inch into your vagina and push downwards until you feel a slight burning sensation. Hold it there for about two minutes, it will become numb. Then push down and to the left for two minutes, then repeat to the right. It says to do this several times a week starting at about week 34.

Not sure if it works or not, but just thought I'd share. Obviously check with your doctor first

That's definitely interesting. I had an episiotomy with the 1st two. I think it hurts afterwards. This may be worth looking into.

Funny that i came across this post now. I was reading one of my new baby magazines last night and it was describing how to prepare the perenium.

This one said to use a vegetable oil, use two fingers and stretch apart then massage the skin, and it can be done at any point during the pregnancy not just near the end.

Hmmmm......

wow sounds painful but I think Ill take my chances lol.
I always tear or stretch but have never been cut. knock on wood. but I have heard it is very painful.

Hi, I have heard the same techniques and exercises. I will definately be using them. Anything to prevent being cut or tearing. Anyway, take care everyone.

Hi - there is also a product on the market called the Epi-No, if you do a search you can find info about that too.
