Hello everyone. My tummy's been hurting recently and my doc said to take Tums (which work amazingly!) Problem is - I am nervous taking ANYthing, and I find that I need them about twice a day now. How many is TOO many? (I will NOT take more than 4 a day, but is this still too much??)
hi i seem to be having the same problem...with the amount your taking i would think that you would be ok..my doc told me to either try tums or milanta..but stay away from pepto and rolaids..i hope you feel better soon

new edd aug 28 but still hoping for 9-1..lol boyfriends birthday present
I have taken mylanta at least 3 times a day for the past 4 months. My doctor said it is not a problem at all. I brought up the issue that it says "do not continue use for longer than 4 weeks" on the bottle. Doctor says it is because they don't want people to keep taking it and not going to the doctor in case they have an underlying gastrointestinal disorder. But your heart burn is caused by pregnancy. Mylanta works wonders for me though. Tums did help, but mylanta is my best friend!! LOL. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my heartburn has only gotten worse as the weeks have gone by. I'm now almost 30 weeks.
EDD with baby #1 for hubby and I September 21st, 2003! It's A BOY!
Hey! How are you feeling? I am also like you--nervous about taking anything while pregnant. Tums are fine to take. I think one kind of Tums that you buy has extra calcium and my dr. said these were great to take. I haven't taken them but I have a friend that used to literally snack on them when she was pregnant because she had heartburn so bad. So don't worry about taking four a day .
Hope this helps
9-19-03 J.T's expected b-day!!
I too worry about taking anything (I'm even weird about taking something when I wasn't pg.) I have acid reflux which has only worsened w/ pg. and I used to take a prescription med. (aciphex) that helped, but my dr. said not to take it while pg. He suggested Gavescon, so I bought some but am afraid to take it. I don't know how similiar it is to tums. Does anyone know about Gavescon during pg.?
Thank you all SOOOOO much! I feel MUCH better now about taking them - phew! No more tummy aches! These forums are so wonderful, I am actually asking questions that I feel sound stupid only to receive such open responses! Thanks!
