low amniotic fluid

my daughter in law was recently told that her amniotic fluid was low. Are there any things my d-in-law can do for this? I was looking up reasons why this can be, and one of them was lupus....can anyone share with me how lupus is diagnosed? And also, can it be diagnosed during pregnancy, and if so can it be treated during pregnancy?
This is our first grandchild...we are besides ourselves...
thanks
