Just switched from Cipro to Bactrim for prostatitis - questions...
Hi
I was on Cipro for a week for what I originally *thought* was a case of prostatitis coming on. Every once in awhile I get this and have been on quinolones before (always with horrific side effects but it treats the infection). Anyway, after a week on Cipro, it felt like I had just gone 12 rounds with Mike Tyson (sore and achey all over in muscles, joints, stomach, head, etc). I also had severe anxiety, brain fog and tons of other stuff.
Anyway, I just stopped taking Cipro yesterday and my doctor has switched me over to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). The side effects from Cipro were so intense that I drank 3 huge glasses of Gin and Sprite yesterday evening just to make the pain go away and flush this monster out of my system (which I read alcohol can do). My questions/comments are...
(1) Has anyone here ever taken Bactrim for prostatitis and was it effective?. What were the side affects and how severe were they?.
(2) My urinalysis w/ culture/dipstick, etc just came back and it was completely negative for any bacteria, viruses, white blood cells, etc so now I'm wondering if I ever had prostatitis to begin with.
(3) If I DID have prostatitis (or the early beginnings of it) would it necessarily show up in the urinalysis I had or would I need a prostate massage/fluid culture to detect this?.
Anyway, thanks for the input.
- Regards, NFIS
