Prostatitis?

Last Thursday, I woke in the middle of the night with a rather painful erection. I peed and the erection went away, but the pain is still there. Kind of an ache in the bottom left side of the penis, not far from where it attaches to the scrotum. Ejaculation and urination are normal (no pain or burning), but erections are still painful, and I feel a dull ache when I cross my legs. I also notice having to pee a lot more than usual, and I'm waking up most nights to pee right at 2:30 a.m. (kind of early for me - usually I can make it through most, if not all, of the night).

Could this be prostatitis? Or is it possible I somehow injured my penis by sleeping on it weirdly? (I wasn't in my usual bed, so maybe it was the mattress)

I should mention that 10 years ago, I had a hernia in the very same area and it was repaired with surgery.

I'm 37 and otherwise am in good health. I made an appointment with the urologist for Friday.

Thanks.

Re: Prostatitis?

I have had a couple bouts with epidydimitis which is an infection of the
epidydimis which is the tube that sperm travels through to get up and out
of the testicles. I could hardly cross my legs -- feels sore and tender on the back side of the testicle, but makes the whole area pretty sore and tender.
I would think that you would need a fairly good force to cause injury to the penis, unless you were sleeping on an erection for awhile.
The more frequent urination tends to point to the prostate - and a lot of times there is soreness in the perineum, between the back of the testicle and the anus. It will be interesting to see what your diagnosis is. Let me know. Good luck!

Re: Prostatitis?

Thanks for your reply. I saw the urologist today. He thinks it could be a burst blood vessel, or some other minor trauma, and is worried it could lead to Peyronie's Disease. However, there's no scarring, and no sign (yet) of any problems with my erection

The pain has seemed better the last day or two. No more tenderness when I press on the area. And when I awoke last night, the erection wasn't too painful -just a little. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks.

HI I would think that a burst blood vessel would produce some bruising in the
area . . . anything like that happening? Anyway, glad that you are somewhat
better. Time does great things -- unless it goes the other way. I had to throw that
in, didn't I. Nice communicating with you.
