After seeing two rectal specialists that said everything looked fine, I decided to go to a Urologist. The Urologist did a DRE with his finger to touch the prostate and I was in pain and he said I shouldn't be. So the Urologist said I probably have Prostatitis and ordered a urine sample which I don't know the results yet. My prostate is inflamed or swollen. I do not know if it is enlarged. What worries me is my symptoms are different than many of the cases I am reading about here. It started at or around ejaculation and ever since for two months I have strange sensations around my rectum especially when sitting. Sometimes I feel like I am sitting on a marble and something inside my rectum when I walk and passing lots of silent gas. It is extremely discomforting. I have no pain around my testes, pain when urinating or ejaculation problems, etc. I do have a decreased lack of sexual stimulation. The doctor said it is the Prostatitis causing this feeling of something in my rectum. I am taking Macrobid for five days now with no improvement. Sometimes it feels better but it comes back real soon recently worse. I am fearing that this is Chronic Prostatitis without an infection. Does anyone have similar symptoms?
Do not fret, the symptoms you describe are quite common. Some get more symptoms in the frontal areas like penis, scrotum, etc., but others get pereneal and anal pains. Once specific pain I got, and still sometimes get, is electric-type shocks in my rectum. Think about it; constipation can cause the prostate to leak fluid. If that can happen, why can't the prostate - especially when inflamed - cause issues near, or in, the rectum?
Good Dr Arnon Krongrad's prostatitis web-site. Listen to some of the testimonials. That will help shed light on you. I am not saying go and get your prostate removed (unless you are that desperate) but I would utilize his expertise, and other sufferers experiences!
I would like to suggest you wait for the urine test results. Urine test can tell many things that other tests cannot. If you are not satisfied with the answer then get another opinion but make it a Urologist. The prostate is your problem according what you mentioned about pain when the doctor touched it.
Believe33,
Thanks.
Definitely would not remove my prostate. The pains are more of an annoying discomfort than a sharp pain. I think my inflammation may have been caused by psychological stress as I notice when I am more stressed, or even hungry it is worse. I am going through some emotional times now. Usually I had this feeling of trapped gas in my rectum but now it is less. The Macrobid is almost finished but symptoms still linger. What will the doctor do next? These antibiotics are strong and wipe out the good stuff in our bodies. This condition is also very stressful and wondering if it is causing my sleeping troubles. I am not getting a deep sleep and this is not good! What is electric-type shock in rectum, that sounds very painful?
I would stop the AB'xs. Obviously they are not helping. I would try to focus on the swelling and trial-and-error certain things such as Ibuprofen, Quercitin, Allicin Max Garlic, etc. Maybe even try pelvic floor therapy, or something like a low-dose anti-anxiety such as Xanax or Ativan....

Hi Believe33,
Yes, Xanax helps alot. I was taking for anxiety and a recent panic attack. It helps tremendously with the feelings I have in my rectum. Thanks for advice.
You give me hope. I have the same symptoms described on this thread. I have no urinary symptoms, but a constant feeling of something in my rectum especially when I sit. Usually passing gas will make it worse or even sometimes after a bowel movement. If I did injure my prostate by not having a release for a month and then releasing, can this heal? I am somewhat perplexed by how long this condition lasts. I have had it now for eight months, and at the onset I felt a dull ache in my rectum/prostate area upon ejaculation. The symptoms were immediate and really started to worry me all the time. I was under extreme stress at the time of the injury. For a week I had no symptoms so I had ejaculated and it all came back pretty constant. Currently, my health insurance is not that great, so I wouldn't really be able to afford a scoping procedure. Would it be wise though to get a CT scan if this is not bacterial? This I could probably afford. Thanks for your time.
Hi,
Have you had a PSA blood test ? your symtoms sound as if you may have a prostate problem and the only way to tell is via a PSA Blood test, your GP can do this.
I will say your symtoms mirror what I had. I now am 5 weeks into Radio therapy for Prostate cancer. Please go to your GP and ask him for the test.
Regards David
I would suggest taking 3 AllicinMax pills everyday. That is what helped my prostatitis go from feeling very uncomfortable 75% of the time to feeling nothing at all %90 of the time, and the other 10% of the time the discomfort is very dull and minor.
Hi,
I had prostatitis for 3 months, no infection, no urinary problems, just pain that sent me to the ER twice. Cat scan, the whole works, nothing but an enlarged prostate-commom for a 60 year old. Was told to take sits baths and ibuprophen, not much improvement. I also have restless leg syndrome, little annoying twitches, asked for some medicine for that. Doc put me on Clonazepam and in 36 hours nearly all the prostrate pain was gone. It also did great job of controlling RLS. I discovered that Clonazepam is used as a treatment for prostatitis on the web, check out this link http://men.webmd.com/anxiolytic-agents-for-prostatitis
there are more things they can try! why do we have to treat ourselves! Bill
Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) is 100% not used for prostatitis, Macrobid has zero concentration into the prostate gland. my advice is go find a urologist who actually knows what he is doing. commonly used drugs for prostatitis include the quinoline, teteracycline, sulfas, and a small handful of cephalosporins. In fact I even asked my urologist whom I saw last friday Dr. Melvin about you taking macrobid for chronic prostatitis, he said Macrobid has no penetration into the prostate gland, he also said I think that guy needs to get a new doctor.
A person on here stated the following
<<<<<"Have you had a PSA blood test ? your symtoms sound as if you may have a prostate problem and the only way to tell is via a PSA Blood test, your GP can do this. " >>>>>
your statement is actually false, Dr arnon krongrad has taken many mens prostates out for chronic prostatitis and pathology report came back positive for prostate cancer. And guess what, these men had psa tests which were normal. PSA test is not 100% accurate, PSA looks for benign growth either prostate enlarging or a cancer rapidly growing. If your prostate is not swollen PSA will usually be normal and if you have prostate cancer but it is not rapidly growing PSA will also be normal. DR krongrad can back up everything I say is true, message him on his website prostatitis.ning if you doubt me.
Prostate massage and TRUS(transrectal ultrasound) are the tests for prostatitis. they can tell you real quick if this is an infection of the prostate. Note" there have been men with very deep prostate infections that had clean prostate fluid with no evidence of infection, and later infections were located with the TRUS. some men benefit from a prostatic massage performed every other day, Dr polacheck in Arizona has cured many a men with these. Many men are cured by direct injections of antibiotics into the prostate even those who are put in the non bacterial category. Dr bahn in california does levaquin injections.
My advice is don't just set there for the next 5 years buying a bunch of vitamins and herbal crap off amazon like everybody else does hoping it will eventually start working. everybody with chronic prostatitis has done this before, myself included(for many many months. And it does nothing but a waste of money some vitamins and some garlic and some broccoli pills are not going to get rid of this. you need to seek a professional and if that professional can't stop this for you, you go to the next professional higher up on the chain, and if he can't help you , you go to the next higher up on the chain etc.
