PUVA - Ridding My Psoriasis

Hi there!

I'm fairly new but i feel i should share my experiences of psoriasis and that treatments i have so far undergone.

What I've learnt since i got psoriasis [at 14] is that you have to be your own doctor, which i did, and right now I am now almost completly clear of my psoriasis.

For years I used many creams, but they are just temporary fixes and from my own personal experience, i think that they eventually make it worse.

I've used elocon, devobet, dovabet, eumovate and various other creams, shampoo's and such. It's all very expensive and tiring as any psoriasis sufferer would agree.

This year had been my worst year, i would say i was getting close to around 40% coverage, which is nothing compared to what I've seen, so i feel very fortunate still.

Anyway, to cut my long story short. I went to my doctor with all the information i could find off the internet about UVB treatment and demanded that I have it. It sounds rather obnoxious, but I was falling into a deep depression. I haven't worn a skirt for the 6 years I've had psoriasis, and been so conscious of what I should wear. I explained to my dermatologist that I no longer feel like i can be me, that i want to feel like a girl again. He eventually agreed with me, and offered me PUVA treatment as I'm not a "serious" case.

Anyway, I'm now on my 5th week of treatment of PUVA, and all i have left is minor staining on my legs. I look like I've been on holiday because I'm rather pink, but I'm developing a lovely tan. Its not a cure, but my nurse has said that this clearness could last up to a year, which is fine with me.

I hope this little bit of information might help someone.

Danielle x
