Psoriasis or Seborrheic Dermatitis- Seeking help

An Australian Dermatologist has just stated that many people here may be confused in thinking they have psoriasis but in fact have Seborrheic Dermatitis. That Seborrheic Dermatitis has been treated with antinflammatory agents zinc compounds and coal tar but instead of this now doctors were treating a yeast fungus called pityrosporum ovale with a group of chemicals called imidazoles which tackled the fungus the cause of Seborrheic dermatitis (SD).
Finding a specialist doctor who really knows whether it is psoriasis or SD is difficult so I I would like to know whether anyone has had success with the new treatment for fungus relating to SB.

I haven't, but one of my hair clients has, and it was very successful. She had it on her scalp, around her ears, on her forehead, and down the back of her neck. It took a while, but it all cleared up.

Re: Psoriasis or Seborrheic Dermatitis- Seeking help

I have had a terrible problem with what is currently diagnosed as a combination of seborrhic dermatitis and rosacea. From what I have read it has long been suspected that the yeast you mentioned is involved in seborrheic dermatitis and thats why shampoos like nizoral help. I'm not sure if it is a imidazole like you mentioned. Do you have any other names? I recently found an excellent article on seborrheic dermatitis on www.emedicine.com search for seborrheic dermatitis. It suggests that people have normal levels of this yeast on their skin, but their immune system does not respond to it properly. I personally have had a number of abnormal immune system tests, and have an unusually bad problem with seb dermatitis. Also 50 to 75% of AIDS patients develop seb dermatitis. I suspect my immune system is playing a part in all of this. Do you have any more infor on the imidazoles being used?

I just wanted to add that I even had a skin biopsy, and the results only suggested seb dermatitis, but could not rule out psoriasis. I thought a biopsy would be more definitive.

Re: Psoriasis or Seborrheic Dermatitis- Seeking help

This is just some information I have regarding my experience. Out of what seemed like nowhere in 1998, I came down with severe Eczema and severe Acne. Very similar to seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis. Turns out a long almost year treatment of anti-biotics wiped my digestive tract of any good bacteria. I basically got a severe case of yeast over-growth throughout my colon. After spending obsessive amounts of money at dermatologists and doctors, I began an exhaustive research using the internet to find others with my same skin problems. I am not completely cured of my eczema/acne yet, but taking the simple steps of reducing carbs out of my diet(it feeds yeast); eating lots of salads(twice a day to help "fiber-clean" my colon); drinking lots of water (to help flush toxins - candida out of my body); and using an AHA lotion (which works great, albeit slowly, to get rid of acne scars) and Borage oils(GLA to help my skin and intestines heal) - I have noticed extremely good results. My itching, oozing skin is gone, my acne is less severe and heals much faster (I continue to wash my face twice a day only, and use non-pore clogging products). The next step for me is a colonic cleansing to give a one-two shot and really wipe the candida from my body. All this research and information is free on the internet, just pull up a search engine (I used ***********) and search for "candida, colon, yeast, treatment" and the like! Good luck, and hang in there! There is a natural way to restore your body to normal!
