Trouble getting the patch and rape...

My girlfriend was raped over a year ago now. She went to the clinic and got OV patch and used them up and now its time to go back but it is the biggest task in the world because each time she has to go get a papsmear(sp?). Well she had to get checked right after the rape so now each time she is due for a papsmear it brings the rape back to her mind as if it happend a few hours before. We are at the point will she refuses to go get more bc if it requires an inspection. This is very hard on me and her because i only belive in very safe sex i.e her on BC, me using a condom, and i pull out before ejaculation.

Is there a way to get ortha evera patch without her getting inspected each time we need more?

Hope this post makes sense.

Re: Trouble getting the patch and rape...

She should see a rape counselor. I can totally understand why she is upset, but she does need to find a way to over come this. Paps smears are pretty important. Ask her what other things might change how she feels. Maybe she could go to a clinic in a different area or maybe you could go with her.

Help your GF and find the #s to rape counselors in your area.

I agree with DBZ....She has got to overcome this some how. (talking to a counselor like already suggested....)

it's important not only for the BC (because you cannot get on any without being checked out) but also to make sure she doesn't form cervical cancer.....

She will only get them but only once a year or two. They want her to do it every 3 to 4 months for the patch. We are hoping to explain her situation firts and hope she only has to do it every othe issueing of the patch. She wont go to a counselor. She is okay with it except the examination.

Re: Trouble getting the patch and rape...

Thats weird that they would require 3-4 exams for Ortho Evra. I was on it at one time and all I needed to get it was my "annual exam". It might be because the patch is pretty new, I dunno. Anywho, she could try going to another clinic or maybe she could go on the pill if it only requires 1 exam per year. It just seems a little weird to have that many PAPS done in one year... quite unnecessary actually. If your girl is comfortable with it, maybe she should tell them that she was raped and how the exams bring back the memories. I am sure that they would understand that. If you have a Planned Parenthood where you live, you could try them because they dont require exams to get birth contol.

Good luck to you guys, I hope it all works out.
