I sneezed, heard a pop - rib pain

I sneezed heard/felt a pop in my upper right rib cage and intense pain. It hurts to lift my right arm, push or dangle my right arm. Can't sleep on my side, or laugh. Hurts to push in so wraping will not help.

Is this a torn muscle or broken rib since I heard a pop? It's the third day of moist heat pad and out of work. I can't go to the doctors since my deductable is high.

Any advice, experiences.

thanks,
Eli

Re: I sneezed, heard a pop - rib pain

There are several muscles, tendons, and ligaments that attach to your ribs and aid in torso movement, breathing, etc. I don't know if it's possible to fracture an intact rib by sneezing, even with a really forceful sneeze, so I would guess that maybe you pulled or damaged a muscle/tendon/ligament. If you DID fracture a rib, you could be at risk for liver, spleen, lung, etc. rupture, depending on which rib you fractured and how severe it is. If the pain is still ongoing, I would try to get some medical attention. Fractured ribs usually take well over a month to fully heal.

I would see a chyro...it sounds like you put a rib out.
I have had a rib out several times. It can hurt all the way to your chest.

It is documented that people have actually broken ribs by sneezing!
Did you know a sneeze can travel as fast as 100 miles per-hour!
