5 q minus syndrome

Does anyone have any knowledge of this disorder. Following a heart attack last year, I was found to have a blood disorder, where I do not have enough red blood cells and they are enlarged. After countless blood tests, my condition was finally diagnosed as a result of bone marrow tests, which showed I have 5 q minus syndrome, which is a form of myelodysplasia or MDS. I am receiving blood transfusions (red cells) as treatment, but my consultant is trying to get me on to a drug called Revlimid. Does anyone have any experience of this also. I would be grateful for any input.

Re: 5 q minus syndrome

Just saw your post. Great article on myelodisplastic syndrome out of the Cleveland Clinic by Mikkael Sekeres, MD which may answer some of your questions. Should show up on your search engine. Good Hunting.
