Subclavian Blood clot/Thorasic Outlet Syndrome???

2 years ago i was diagnosed with effort enduced thrombosis in my left sutclevian vein... i was told that it was from working out, and the build up of muscle in the general area... after a veinogram, it was concluded that i had waited to long to go to the dr. and that they would just leave it alone, and put me on blood thinner for 6 months... they futher told me i could continue to work out normal now, and that the clot was stable and had "walled itself off", and that the chance of embolization was next to nhil... i guess my question is two part...

since the onset of symptoms of the blood clot two years ago from time to time i ahve hot/electrical pain starting at the base of my left trapazoid that courses down my shoulder blade, the back of my arm/elbow and down to my ring and little finger... i also feel numbness in those two fingers as well... has anyone else every felt these symptoms due to a subclavian clot???

my next question is if it were you would you go on to a specialist and get his opinion on the clot??? i mean my family dr. says its safe and wont move"embolize", but i cant help but fell nervous when it comes to smething like a blood clot thats still in my body... thanks...

Neils...

Re: Subclavian Blood clot/Thorasic Outlet Syndrome???

Hi Neil, I am a mom of a 19 year old girl that play Division 1 softball. After being seen by the team doctor twice for her pain, then being taken to the orthopedist back home, both of whom came up with incorrect diagnosis, we were just told today that she has Thorasic Outlet Syndrome. At this point, I am not even sure what kind of TOS she has, as we now have to go back for a second mri. this can be a really painful and scary thing to deal with. To reply to your question, Yes, if I were your Mom, I would definately go to a specialist and get his opinion on the clot. Neil, the worse thing that will happen is that the specialist will tell you the same thing your family doctor told you, and at least you will not be second guessing yourself. Let me know how things go for you. Best wishes! Pepper55

I have had the surgery for Thorasic Outlet Syndrome

Thorasic Outlet in short is to say you have another set of ribs. They are likely located near the neck and Clavical area. This would have your nerve and blood supply compromised as they get compressed. In my case, I was smashed. Really. After much painfull testing and many useless doctors I went searching on my own. I found a wonderful Neurosurgeon who agreed with the team, if I did not have the rib removed, at some time I would get Gang-Green and need to remove the arm. I had the surgry about 3 months ago. It is an amazing pain. Worse than delivering a baby- thru your neck. this is just the pain from surgery. And you will feel this pain for many weeks after. Then comes the other pains; You see, all the other items in your chest now want that open space, and then that open space, and so on. I had been in therapy for a year prior to the surgery and I am likely to be in it still for another year or two before we know if life will ever be the same. Just an odd note; if you do have this extra set of Thorasic Ribs, you most likely also have extra bones in your feet.
