PFAPA - how long is long enough?

I have a 2.5 year old girl who has been having these extremely high fevers every 2-4 weeks for many months now (seems like she would be a textbook case of PFAPA based on her symptoms). Just wondering when it appropriate to push for answers other than "it's just viral" ...How long did everyone wait before seeking out a diagnosis?

Re: PFAPA - how long is long enough?

Push now keep records of her fever cycles. My daughter will be 9 tomorrow we finally got a diagnoises June 2008 that it was PFAPA. Her fevers started around 10 months old. We were to many Doctors with nobody wanting to listen or due further testing. Finally at the end of 2007 I did find a Doctor that would listen. Finally getting an answer was a big relief. He put her on Prednisone during her Fever episodes. She has not had a fever in 3 months she still gets alot of headaches I just pray this is the end of the fevers. If you dont get a diagnosis these doctors will just keep pushing the antibiotics. I regret having her take all those antibiotics because the doctors kept sayin it was an infection going on in her body and all the times she cried because it tasted so bad. Dont wait if you have any other questions I hope I can help ( symptoms etc.)

I was seeing one Ped. and then got lucky and saw a different one in the practice. I kept dragging my ill son in and told them that something was really wrong. You need to use words like recurrent & episodic. I got a referral to the ENT specialist who actually diagnosed my son, not the ped. but the Ped was on board that something was not right. He said my son had recurrent tonsilitis. My specialist told me not to be mad at the ped bacause they just are not trained to look for PFAPA, just tonsils.
I wish you luck and I hope someone listens to you.
