Congenital Hyperinsulinism - KATP
My oldest daughter gave birth to twin girls on Tuesday afternoon via C-section. One of the babies (now 3 days old) was diagnosed this afternoon with severe KATP hyperinsulinism. Ironic, as my other daughter (not the one that gave birth) is a Type I Diabetic.
She is in the best hospital in Connecticut, but they only see on average 1 case of this type of disease every 3 years, and they are saying my grandbaby is the most severe case they have seen.
I really am trying to get in touch with someone who has experience with this disease. Since I have a diabetic daughter, I'm well aware of the effects of severe hypoglycemia, but had never heard of hyperinsulinism until now. Please tell me there's someone out there that has been involved with this...
