My son was born with neonatal alloimune thrombocytopenia, which turned a common ruptured blood vessel (from birth) into a major (grade 3+) ICH. He survived, and now has been left with a VP-Shunt, mild CP, and is now 13 and a half years of age.
7 weeks ago, he had a seizure. He was "out" for about two minutes, and then regained mobility and speech after about another 20 minutes. Two days ago, he had another seizure. With this one, he was out for about 5 minutes, and didn't regain full speecha nd mobility for about 45 minutes. They have now put him on dilantin. We see the neurologist Monday.
NAT is very rare, from what we have been told. They did platelet apheresis on my wife three times, so that he could have the maternal platelets that were not affected by the maternal antibodies that killed off his own platelets. He also got my blood (O-) for transfusions.
I guess the questions are two-fold here: 1) Has anyone else experienced a situation like this - NAT, CP, and seizures? More specifically, are seizures "normal" in a case like this? and 2)Did my wife and I cause more harm than good by being doners for him, when he was a neonate? We are told now that we cannot ever be doners for him again, since he would have antibodies against us.
