What is this disease called? and how to treat? - Rare Disorders Message Board

What is the disease called, when someone avoids touching anyone/anything fearing he would catch a disease, and keeps on washing his hands and face to the degree of getting strong rashes. This is very serious and I have no idea how this is called to look for solutions, or any idea besides seeing a therapist.

Sounds like a form of OCD Obsessive Complusive Disorder. It can take many forms. Repetive movements, isolation, fear of germs. Some is more pronounced then others. I dont know the name of the medications they use to control it. However you should check out webmd.com Just type in OCD and it should give you some information.

Hi- There is a "Compulsions and OCD" Board right here on HealthBoards where you will find lots of people going through the same thing. It is much more common than we used to think. Millions of people have various degrees of it. And different forms. There is also an OCD Foundation which can send you info and tips on how are where to get help.

OCD....there's also another term germaphobic (that's not it, but it has to do with a phobia of catching any sort of bacteria or disease)
