severe leg pain after drinking alcohol??? - Rare Disorders Message Board

Friend of mine has this weird problem : after drinking alcohol (2 or 3 beers), sometimes up to 48 hours later, his face swells and breaks out in hives. He feels extremely tired and weak. The worst is this: he gets SEVERE pain in both legs. To the point he cannot walk or stand. Three times now in 6 months he has had to be rushed to the ER where they ave him Morphine. He has seen Dr after Dr and no one knows what is wrong. One thought it was his liver, but the next said his enzyme count was fine.

Does anyone have any info?

Lauren-
The face swelling and hives is easier to figure out than the leg pain.
This certainly sounds like an allergic reaction. Although alcohol can be the culprit, it usually is not. The culprits are usually the additives used in the manufacturing process of booze. Some of the possible culprits include:

Brewers yeast
Corn
Eggs
Grapes
Molds
Sulfites
Pesticides

One of these can easily be responsible for the hives/facial swelling.

The leg pain has got me stumped.1) Does your friend ever have leg pain at any OTHER time, apart from when he ingests alcohol?

2) Is there any swelling when these 'attacks" happen? Is the skin of the legs mottled or warm to the touch?

Any other info you can offer.
