Gemella Haemolysans, granm pos. anyone know what antibiotic will kill it? - Rare Disorders Message Board

In 6-02 I had a discogram and was infected with this rare bacteria, Doc just got back from Africa and done in shared mini-hosp,(outpatient) with gastrointestinal practice, colonostopys being done in next room while he is sticking needles in my back!!! It settled in my L-3-4 level which was good disc that he compared internal pressure from, and I have herniated and torn discs at levels L-4-5 band L-5-S-1. Osteo surgeon did emergency surgery in 12-02 to remove disc at L-3-4 with fusion and debridement. Fusion never took cause infection still present, Now he wants to do it from posterior and put in hardware but wont address original bad discs until I get discogram resultss that he is supposed to have, I've been trying and trying to get them but no luck yet, I will not let him cut me again unless he fixes all bad discs. Does anyone know what will kill this rare bacteria? I have had 2 pic lines ,first with IV rocephin, then oral flagyl , the second with IV cleocin and then oral clindamycin to no avail I still am infected and it's eating away my spine. Any responses would be greatly appreciated Thanks and God Bless

I personally have no knowledge of this bacteria, but I suggest you get it cultured in a laboratory so they can see what is effective against it. If you still have you PICC line in, you may want to try Vancomycin.

I did a search on Gemella haemolysans and here's something I found:
SECTION IV - VIABILITY

DRUG SUSCEPTIBILITY: Sensitive to penicillin, streptomycin, tetrasulfathiazole, chloramphenicol, vancomycin

SUSCEPTIBILITY TO DISINFECTANTS: Susceptible to many disinfectants - 1% sodium hypochlorite, 70% ethanol, glutaraldehyde, formaldehyde, iodines

PHYSICAL INACTIVATION: Sensitive to moist heat (121° C for at least 15 min) and dry heat (160-170° C for at least 1 hour)

SURVIVAL OUTSIDE HOST: Does not survive well outside of host

Ask your doctor about Augmentin XR...I'm not sure if that's the exact name of it, but it's 1000mg of amoxicillin and you take two pills twice a day. That should get rid of it unless it's resistant, in which case Vancomycin would be the best choice.
